For SAT Math sections, all the formulas/diagrams you need to know are in the instructions (scroll down to the reference information at the bottom of the page).  If you memorize this stuff before the day of the test, you won't waste time looking them up later.  Effectively approaching SAT Math questions means doing the following things:

READ the question to identify what it's asking you to do.  This is vital. Getting a sense of the details of the problem is helpful as well, but not as important as specifically understanding what information should be in your answer.

PLAN your attack by taking a moment to find the easiest way to solve the problem.  The right approach depends on (1) what information is given, (2) how you can manipulate that info, and (3) what info you need to end up with.

ATTACK the problem.  As you work, make sure to write stuff down in a clear and organized manner.  This good form may feel like overkill when you get the right answer the first time.  But, when you're stuck or confused, good form allows you to back up a few steps without having to waste time starting over.  Plus, your notes are a good indication of how clearly you are thinking.  If your notes are confused and illegible, then you're probably rushing too fast.

CHECK your answer quickly.  Make sure that your choice specifically answers the problem.  Remember that the test writers are trying to trick you.
